…and then the heavens opened !

This winter has been the driest on record here in South Florida…almost no rain for the past three months…and then, last night, the heavens opened:
 

"Issued by The National Weather Service Miami, FL 11:20 am EDT, Wed., Mar. 18, 2009:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MIAMI HAS ISSUED AN URBAN FLOOD ADVISORY FOR… NORTHEASTERN BROWARD COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST FLORIDA… THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF… POMPANO BEACH… PLANTATION… MARGATE… FORT LAUDERDALE… DEERFIELD BEACH… CORAL SPRINGS… AT 11:15 AM EDT, MIAMI DOPPLER RADAR WAS INDICATING HEAVY RAINFALL REDEVELOPING OFFSHORE OF NORTHEAST BROWARD COUNTY AND MOVING ONTO THE COAST NEAR LIGHTHOUSE POINT AND HILLSBORO BEACH.  RADAR IS ESTIMATING THAT ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL HAS FALLEN IN THE PAST HOUR WITH AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF FOUR INCHES ACROSS NORTHEAST BROWARD COUNTY. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE TO TWO INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNED AREA.  EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS… AND PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS… HIGHWAYS… STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.   A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED OR PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT."
